Ridge Preservation
Ridge Preservation is done when a tooth, or teeth must be extracted. When teeth are extracted, the dimension of the bone undergoes significant shrinkage if nothing is done to preserve the site. This procedure allows us to maintain the ideal dimensions in order to place future implants.
This is accomplished by placing bone graft materials into the empty socket. These bone graft materials are coated with your own growth factors, Platelet Rich Fibrin (PRF), this stimulates faster, greater bone growth and minimizes post-operative discomfort, swelling, etc. A membrane of some kind (collagen or your own fibrin) is then placed over the bone graft. A few sutures are placed and healing begins; approximately 4 months later, the site is then ready to have an implant placed.
